Water Storage Unit

Water Storage Unit
Credit
This water storage unit was designed, created, and installed by my brother-in-law for our kids.  A big thank you to him - the kids enjoy using it.

Play Experience
An adult fits the hose to the top hose connector and fills the storage unit with water.  The children can then access the water via the tap on the bottom of the unit.  Once the water is used up that's it!  The kids learn that water is a finite resource.  Watching the children ration the water and take responsibility is impressive.

Material
  • Various PVC drainage pipe connectors and pipes
  • PVC glue
  • Plumbing tape
  • 90 deg joint
  • Tap, one that children can easily turn on and off.
  • Mounting bracket (x 2)
  • Hose fitting
Procedure
  1. I'm not going to list the exact parts required as it is best to go to a plumbing supply or hardware store and fit the parts together yourself for the size of storage unit that suits.
  2. Once you have the arrangement you desire at home use PVC glue to join the sections.
  3. Fit the tap to the bottom.  Some plumber's tape may help seal the joint.
  4. Drill a hole in the top side to fit the hose connector.
  5. Mount the unit, using brackets, to a pole, like a patio pole.
  6. Some drill holes may be required at the top to allow the water to flow out (stop suction) once the tap is turned on.
